Empowerment – standing up for one self
REBOUND is an empowerment course and prevention project for schools. In 16 lessons adolescents and teachers intensely deal with their potentials (strenghts) and those things which motivate them personally. Secondly, the programme focuses on one’s own approach to alcohol and other drugs. The focus lies on the ability to make independent and sound decisions.
Independent decisions: yes. But safe and sound.
"Know your limit" (a project of the BZgA) is a good slogan. But how are you to learn what your limit is? REBOUND helps: "Learn to know yourself, learn to know your limit!“ The course and also the website are supposed to help young people to develop a sound and critical approach to intoxicants and thus being able to make sound and independent decisions. Everybody should be capable to perceive risks (without denying them) and assess one’s own strenghts (and not overestimate them).
Ressource orientation for schools instead of scare tactics
The REBOUND-course is an advances training in ressource oriented pedagogy. This is a topic, which is of improtance fo the entire school system. It is always also about school development and personal learning while teaching.
"In front of the camera" - Media and experience in the focus
We work intensively with short films and other experiental methods. In these short films, young people act out scenes which deal with intoxication and risks. If you take a closer look these films are about life and learning, about things such as affiliation and finding one self, one’s limits and one’s values. In regard to alcohol and cannabis these questions are being asked, critically discussed and answered. REBOUND was and still is being developed witht he help of those people who it is designed for (young people between the age of 13 and 22). Our peer-mentors help teaching the programme.
REBOUND is designed for young people between the age of 14 and 20. Most prevention projects end where many young people enter a „hot“ phase in their development. In this phase most of them have their first experience with alcohol, many have already smoked their first cigarette and many experiment with cannabis and other psychoactive substances. Is this about addiction? Rarely, but there are always dangers and risks for one’s development. REBOUND is supposed to motivate, stimulate critical thinking and discussions among young people, break taboos and enhance risk perception.
The use of responsibility – everybody is participating
An important concept in REBOUND is responsibility. REBOUND supports young people in finding out what responsible use of alcohol and other drugs means to them.
At the same time, the use of responsibility is always more important than responsible use. REBOUND supports young people who want to remain abstinent (we call this: no consumption decision). But REBOUND is also for young people who experiment, even though the adults would like them not to. By staying in contact with them and trying to understand their goals and motives, we prevent them of putting themselves in an outsider position.
Every school can implement the project given, that the school administration is supportive and at least two teachers are motivated to get involved. Contact us!
