Scientific background
REBOUND is an innovative prevention programme which was developed and funded by a cooperation of the Mentor Foundation Germany, KIRON, the Universitiy Clinic Heidelberg and is supported by the European Union.
Currently (until the end of 2012) REBOUND is being evaluated in a controlled study. This is conducted with the highest quality level of scientific practice.
The concepts, method of operation and applied methods include best-practice-concepts and innovative designs. Part of the new developments of the programme are for example some theatre pedagogical methods and working with filmed scenarios. The development and trying out of these methods occurs in a close cooperation with adolescents, who are closely participating in the development of the new concepts.
Any prevention programme should be able to account for their procedural method (why this way and not another way?). REBOUND is based upon a comprehensive programme theory with a range of different modules. These are scientific approaches from different diciplines (medicine, psychology, pedagogy and educational science):
- Assumptions about the prerequisites and conditions for physical and mental health, life competence and life contentment (Werner 1993, Brown 2001, Antonovsky 1987, Grawe 2004)
- Concepts of learning and teaching (Bandura 1985, Brown 2001, Brown et al. 2001)
- Assumptions about a successful identity development during adolescence (Straus & Höfer 1997, Havighurst 1948)
- Concepts about the formation and function of risk behavior (and drug use) (Jessor 1991, Resch 2002)
- Explanatory models about the formation, meaning and facilitation of risk sensitiveness and risk competence (Loewenstein 2001, Weinstein 1980, Renner & Schwarzer 2003, Koller et al. 2000)
The quality assurance of the development and conduction of REBOUND is a central concern of the programme. That’s why the conduction of the programme curriculum in all project schools as well as the teachers training is being accompanied and evaluated scientifically. Aditionally, the effectiveness and efficiency of the programme will be evaluated in the evaluation study (REBOUND – The study).
