Plot

In this film, which has no dialogue and is edited like a music video, Lara welcomes the guests to her birthday party. However, the party gets somewhat out of control. Lara drinks more than she can take, has to throw up and becomes the laughing stock of her guests.

Real Story

Lara was about 16 years old and went to school in Southwestern Germany when she told us the situation shown in the film. She started drinking alcohol rather late. For years, she hated herself and how she was seen by others. She had a very negative image of herself and was a typical outsider. Her family was rather poor. Lara changed a lot between the age of 16 and 22. From a 'PWF' (person without friends), who struggled with suicidal tendencies for years, she turned into a self-confident young woman of 22, who worked a steady job and continued her education in order to be able to study.
What was it that changed her? In her case, it was something rather dramatic: when she was about 18 years old, her mother died of cancer. After a “crazy and sad year” (quote), she decided to “never again be a follower, accept me as myself and get my life straightened out” (quote). Why 'be a follower'? She says: “At my birthday party, I was really hammered for the first time. Afterwards I thought my 'friends' had behaved really shitty. They just used me. (...) On the other hand, my standing in class was slightly better after that.”
Real-life Lara did not have any luck with boys for a long time. At the age of 19, she met Marc, at 22 she moved in with him.
Her story with alcohol? “Something like that never happened to me again! I like to drink, even vodka, but that (...) was the wall I had to hit to realise where my limit is.”
